In the current political climate, an expectation exists that faith based communities will address needs that the federal and local government are not addressing adequately. But when the needs are the needs of those who suffer with mental illness, faith based communities are often ill-equipped to know how to address the needs of this population. Nancy offers presentations and workshops for religious communities to help them understand mental illness and how to become a welcoming community for those who suffer with various diagnosis of mental illness. For 25 years, she has led groups on spiritual beliefs and values with men and women who suffer with mental illness and uses that experience to help faith based communities understand the importance of making connections with this marginalized group of adults in our society. Her own religious background and her respectful way of working with various denominations puts her in a unique position to work with people of different faith denominations, helping them to reach out to those who suffer with mental illness.
